So Now We’re in the Jewelry Business

I don’t believe I need to tell anybody this economy is tricky and many of us have been having a pretty tough time. I lost my position about 4 months ago when the plant where I was employed closed down 2 of their production lines and my brother in law, Barney got his pink slip last month when his office announced that they were closing the doors for good.

Both of us spent a fair amount of time and energyattempting to find new roles but with no luck. However, we were clear on the fact that we still required earnings to pay our bills and support our families so Barney and I determined to go into business for ourselves.

We had no clear idea on what this operation would be as my only real ability and experience was in manufacturing washing machines and Barney had worked as a QC inspector at a candy factory. However, my young neighbor convinced us that rap music, rappers and that hip hop way of life was the latest expansion trend in our area today. Now I must admit that both Barney and I agree that the entire’rapper scene’ is just plain dumb but if it makes money then who are we to argue.

Somehow we decided to go after the jewelry segment of the hip hop market with the plan that we could start off rather small and just offer our stuff for sale at flea markets until we could afford to open a regular store. So, our next task was to find a wholesale hip hop earrings outlet.

We quickly discovered we had a major problem in that we used to be a new business with no track record and no credit history which suggested that nobody would sell us any inventory except for money. They were all extraordinarily respectful to assure us that credit purchases would be possible after we were established but it was all going to be COD at the beginning. We started scrambling then to find no credit check cash loans.

Well, we ultimately got our funding together. Not especially as much as we wanted but enough to at least buy some starter inventory and get the project rolling and we had also found some promising wholesale outlets that we thought we could deal comfortably with. However, none of these wholesale vendors was in out city so we were going to want to travel which meant making airline and hotel reservations.

Getting the airline reservations was very easy and most of the hotels now subscribe to hotel GDS that made dealing with them also pretty simple.
